MAKINDE ORDERS IMMEDIATE REOPENING OF SHASHA MARKET IN IBADAN

Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State has ordered the immediate reopening of Shasha market after 10 days of closure following the recent bloody clash between Yorubas and Hausas in the market area.

The Governor gave the order on Tuesday, 23rd February 2021, during a meeting with Shasha community leaders at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan, the State capital.

Recall that Shasha market situated in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan was shut down on 13th February following an ethnic clash between Hausa and Yoruba communities in the area on Friday, 12th February 2021 that led to the loss of lives and properties.

The Governor also imposed an indefinite curfew on Shasha and the market area which ran from 6 pm to 7 am to forestall breakdown of law and order in the area.

Following the clash, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi and Abubakar Bello of Niger visited the market to proffer a lasting solution to the clash between Yoruba and Hausa communities
