Liverpool Captain, Jordan Henderson Awarded MBE for Charity Works

Published

Jordan Henderson has been awarded an MBE for services to charity.

Liverpool’s captain has been recognised for his work and contribution throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

In April 2020, Henderson was an architect of the ‘Players Together’ initiative that encouraged professional footballers to donate to the NHS.

He subsequently became an ambassador for the NHS Charities Together organisation, which supports the staff, patients and volunteers of the 240 NHS charities in the UK.

Earlier this year, meanwhile, Henderson supported Cybersmile’s anti-cyberbullying campaign ‘People Not Profiles’ by handing over control of his social media accounts to the foundation in order to raise awareness of the impact of online abuse.

Speaking about receiving an MBE, Henderson said: “My family and I feel greatly humbled to be recognised in this way, more so given the reason for it.

“There are many privileges that come from playing professional football, but having a platform to promote a charitable cause such as Players Together and NHS Charities Together is as big a privilege as any.

“It’s important for me to state that although the honour has been issued to me personally, the credit must be shared to a far larger group of people and I accept this in the knowledge I was part of something special, rather than the reason for it.

“The other Premier League captains were the catalyst and the rest of the players, including my own teammates at Liverpool, were a driving force behind the scenes. Huge numbers of football fans from across the country also displayed great generosity in donating.

“But the true heroes are the NHS staff; they put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect us.

“Therefore I dedicate this to all the nurses, doctors, carers, porters, admin workers, cleaners, security personnel and every single individual who devotes their career and their lives to making the NHS the part of British life we are rightly most proud of as a nation.”

AFCON : I’ll Give You 50 Million Naira If You Win – Air Peace Chairman Promises Super Eagles

…Gifts 10 million naira for goal scored in opening match against Egypt

Air Peace Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, in his characteristic culture of philanthropy and nationalism, has promised to give the Nigerian Super Eagles a whooping sum of fifty million naira, if they win the ongoing African Cup of Nations, which kicked off on January 9, 2022.

Onyema, who made the pledge in Garoua, Cameroon, while speaking to the Super Eagles during half time in their opening game against the Egyptians, stressed that the players carry the hopes and aspirations of over 200 million people and 350 ethnicities on their young shoulders, urging them to give their best and win the trophy. He also promised to give 10 million naira for every goal scored in the Eagles’ opening match against Egypt.

His words: “We believe in what you can do, you have the strength as a team. Remember what I told you during the qualifying series. That it is not just an ordinary football match. You are carrying the hopes and aspirations of over 350 ethnic nationalities of our beautiful country. You’re playing for the unity of Nigeria. This is your time to play your part in cementing the unity of this nation, as Nigerians from North, South, East and West will celebrate in unison. Do us proud and when you come back with the cup, I’m going to give you 50 million naira”.

The aviator par excellence used the medium, again, to harp on the uniting powers of football as whenever the Eagles are playing, Nigerians jettison their ethnic and religious sentiments and forge a united font in support of the team.

It can be recalled that during the qualifying stages, the Air Peace helmsman delivered a similar unity-themed and motivational speech to the Super Eagles on board one of the airline’s brand new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, and gave them a cheque of 20 million naira. The Falcons of the 1999 squad were also beneficiaries of 10 million naira from the aviation cognoscente during the 3rd NFF-Aiteo Football Awards last year in Lagos.

Air Peace, a leading Nigerian airline, is the official airline sponsor of the Nigerian National Teams.

Aftermath EPL Massacre: Pogba Must Not Play For ManU Again, says Scholes

Published

on

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has identified Paul Pogba as the player that should never play for the club again following the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Man United were 4-0 down by half-time and booed off the pitch by supporters.

Mohamed Salah completed his hat-trick shortly after the first half, while Pogba, who was brought on as a half-time substitute, was sent off in the 60th minute for his reckless challenge on Naby Keita.

But Scholes believes the France international has caused the club problems in the last couple of years, adding he will not be missed at the Red Devils if he leaves in the January transfer window

“To say a disappointing day would be a complete understatement,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“I think we all realise it’s been difficult, I just think the manager got caught up in the emotion of the comeback [against Atalanta] on Wednesday night.

Scholes

“We keep going back to that game, but you were never going to do that against Liverpool, they have too much quality.

“I don’t think it was a lack of effort, I think tactically, they were set up in a way where this could happen and unfortunately, it did happen.

“Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at halftime to try to help the team and maybe get a little bit of respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.

“Then, later on, gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with 10 men.

“You’d have to think if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Paul Pogba again in a United shirt? He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everybody knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tries to give him his head, and let him be the player he’s been.

“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom, and then he comes on and does something like that.

“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong, but that’s part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.

“Look, he probably will play [again] won’t he? But I don’t think they will be missing anything if he doesn’t.

“He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your teammates, what he’s done today.”
