Reports filtering from Wukari, in Taraba State, the traditional, spiritual and cultural base of the Jukuns have it that its leader, Aku Uka, Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi Kuvyon II has joined his forebears.
There has been no official confirmation but many platforms including that of National Association of Jukun Wanu (NAJUWA) and Wanu Progressive Movement among others say the spiritual leader has gone before us.
SunriseNigeria sources in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, said there tones that the monarch had died and the news being communicated to the state government to approve a formal announcement.
It is not clear when the reverred leader died as it might be Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Masa-Ibi was coronated as the 27th Aku Uka in recorded history of Kwararafa in 1976. He was Chairman, Taraba State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chancellor, Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
In March 1961, he was a Personal Assistant to the Executive Officer in the Ministry of Animal Health, Kaduna and then became a Personal Assistant to the Parliamentary Secretary, Northern Region and transferred to Lagos as Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) in 1963, and finally retired from civil service after the January 1966 Military Coup to start a business enterprise in Makurdi, then part of Benue-Plateau State from where he was made the Aku Uka.
Meanwhile the State Governor, Architect Darius Dickson Ishaku has expressed shock and sadness on the passing of His Royal Majesty, Dr Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi, Aku Uka of Wukari and chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs.
Gov Ishaku described the late Aku Uka as a foremost paramount ruler whose reign brought peace, unity and prosperity to Wukari, Taraba State and the entire ancient Kwararafa Kingdom.
This was contained in a statement by Bala Dan Abu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity.
He described his reign as a period of self discovery by the Jukun people of their strategic place in history and role in the promotion of modern civilisation in Nigeria and beyond.
Gov Ishaku described Masa-Ibi as a leader with a rare sense of history and praised him for his immense contributions to the documentation of the historic contributions of the Jukun and the entire Kwararafa people to the emergence of modern nations in Africa and Nigeria in particular.

He said the demise of the traditional ruler at this point in time has robbed Taraba State and Nigeria of the benefits of his wise counsel which he offered very generously in his personal capacity and as chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs.
