Gunmen kidnap medical doctor in Anyigba

Uneasy calm now pervades the University town of Anyigba, Kogi State as unknown gunmen have abducted the Medical Director of Peace Hospital in the town, Dr. Azubuike Joel Ihenacho.

According to the Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Omakoji Oyiguh, who confirmed this in a statement, Dr Iheanecho was abducted on Saturday evening at his residence in Ayingba.

Oyiguh also said the case of the kidnap has been reported to the police authorities.

“Dr Azubuike Joel Iheanacho was kidnapped in front of his house at Anyigba in Dekina Local government area of Kogi State.

“He was in a vehicle with another man and the wife when the kidnappers ordered the other two out of the car,” he said.

Also confirming the kidnap, the state Police Commissioner, Ayuba Ede, said that efforts are being made to ensure the safe rescue of the doctor.

He said the kidnap was locally arranged adding that his men were on the kidnappers’ trail.

“Our men have entered the bush on their trail, we even saw other Victims abandoned by the kidnappers, we are suspecting that it was locally arranged and we will get them in no time,” Ede said.

Reports reaching SunriseNigeria indicate that former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Mohammed Ibrahim Idris has died.

Mohammed, son of a former governor of Kogi State,  Alhaji Ibrahim Idris reportedly slumped and died on Wednesday while preparing to go for the Eid-el-Fitr prayers.

BREAKING: FG Approves Thursday As Additional Public Holiday For Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as additional public holiday to commemorate Eid-El-Fitr.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Aishetu Ndayako, shared on the ministry’s X account on Tuesday.

The statement said, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid -El-Fitr.

“The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while congratulating the Muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.”
